Great piece. Would make a terrific kitchen island or is that what it's being used for? Love it!

I'm glad to see this turned out! I can only imagine the hell you went through during glue up. I like the trim around the edge. Beautiful work!

even though i'm sure thats very heavy, and it'd make a great countertop - i think it'd look awesome hanging on the wall as some art!!

I bet that took a few clamps to get it all to come together!

How did you proceed with the glue-up on a larger piece like this? Did you break it into sections, then put those together, or what was your process here?

Great idea to enlarge something that we've all seen lots of times, turning it into more of a permanent showpiece in the kitchen!

The wood I used was Maple, Walnut and Cherry. The top is 2"thick all 8/4. When I glued it up I made a giant square from 4 layers 0f MDF that I could use to assemble the pcs. sq. I then used a 3" web clamp with long cheater bar and all the bar clamps I could get around it . I used Gorilla glue to extend the open time and I had my sweet wife with a 4" paint roller applying glue as I placed the pcs. HURRY

Sometimes, teamwork is the only way to go.

Thanks for the details on the glue-up.

Exceptional results, and like jerryw said, certainly a conversation piece.

That is impressive. Wow.
The cutting, glue up, and the final flattening….. I can just picture it. Thank goodness for partners.
