Project Information

Yes you read it right. This box is 0.75 cubic inches in volume.

The box is 23mm x 23mm x 23mm (29/32" cubed). Now that is a tiny box.
The wall thickness is 2mm (5/64") as are the pattern stripes.

The stripes are Sycamore, Pau Amarello, English Yew, Padauk and Purpleheart.
The box edging, lipping and base are Ebony.

Glues used are PVA to join the stripes and Cyanoacrylate (Super Glue) to build the box.

Finish is wax over sanding sealer.

Pic 1. The box.
Pic 2. The top.
Pic 3. Bottom and top separated to show interior and lipping and that the pattern is throughout.
Pic 4. Something to give you a visual clue to how small 23mm is.
Pic 5. The wooden box (foreground) with the original paper model (background).

All the wood was from my scrap bin.

The construction is blogged in four parts starting here.

Dang! That's a big quarter! It would be pushing my abilities just to make the paper box. Another marvel from you.

This is some crazywork. At first I was wondering about this freakishly large coin you used for the photo, but then I read about the 23mm. Very nice work, oh and did I mention crazy yet?

I need to save all these great ideas you come up with. Some day I would like to do this too.
You are such a great inspiration. Even the smallest boxes you make are great in artistic size.

Be well, Pabull.

That is a feat of skill and craftsmanship. The attention to detail is so superior that we have to look at it several times to comprehend it. Your grade is AA+++ with gold stars. Outstanding. (gives me that feeling of a winning touchdown by my favorite team)

Bradford, it was your 2 cubic inch box. Sorry I just couldn't trace it when I mentioned it in the blog. Thank you for your support.
