Project Information

After seeing the Cheese Slicer's that SPalm and Mary Anne made and the Drunken Cutting Boards that poroskywood did. I just had to give it a try. These are going to make great Christmas Gifts for this year. I made 10 of them, two of each of the wavy designs and one each of the bow tie and Swiss cheese style. They are 5 7/8" wide by 9 3/4" long by 7/8" thick. I used a 5/32" down cut spiral router bit to make the slot for the slicing wire. I wanted it to have a flat bottom. I used poly urethane glue. As in SPalm's boards it is at a 5 degree angle. I used a miter gauge with a fence and a 1/2" spacer against the fence to get the angle and then ran it through on the router table after I had drilled the hole for the rod. It worked out really well.

The first picture is of some of them completed, the 2nd & 3rd is while I was putting the finish on (I used salad bowl finish cut by 50%). The last three is of them completed. The woods used were walnut, cherry and maple in varying designs. I also put rubber bumpers on the bottom so they won't slide on a counter top. Thanks for looking…..and thanks to the above LJ's for the inspiration.

BeeMan,

Thank you for the compliment, I like that one also. I made the strips thinner than on the others and then soaked them in water to get them to bend around the sharper curves.

I think that Swiss Cheese slicer is darn clever!

And I like the walnut/cherry combo with maple strips. I just finished doing four boards with cherry strips and maple and walnut squares.
