Project Information
Another project that I started a few years back and though the wood sculpting aspect is finished the total project still needs more attention to.
My partner had a mahogany chopping block and after I had started carving with knives, I really started eyeing that chunk of wood as something with better intent that to have onions and tomatoes carved upon its surface. I finally convinced her that mahogany wasn't the choicest piece of wood to be carving on unless one needed a lot more fiber in their diet and we set upon finding a good end grain maple block for its replacement.
"Oh, I could use that piece in some way or another," I told her, with a subtle smile!
I hand sawed the piece in half horizontally, wishing with every moment that I had access to a bandsaw. Then using my hand as a guide I drew out the pattern and started carving. Palm Readers take note- these are my actual life, heart, and head lines… please don't publicize the lunacy that these lines may reveal….. ha ha.
I then figured out a means in which to attach a thin leather binding to both halves to form a book cover- front and back. I have cut out many sheets of paper with the hand shape that will have printed upon them pictorial images of the "hand" sign language. These images will be cut from linoleum blocks and hand printed, bound and then bound into this wood cover.
Truly a one-of-a -kind HANDBOOK. Hope you all like it!
