Project Information
This cane has a big handle made for someone who wants a sturdy cane to lean a lot of weight on. It fits a medium to large size hand and the handle is designed to use in the reverse direction of traditional canes. The extended curved end faces outward and your palm rests on the flat, wide area directly above the shaft. This gives superior support than when leaning your weight on the long extended end. It is a very comfortable handle and allows better leverage to swing the cane shaft outwards for the next step making the whole movement very fluid.
The handle is made of Arizona ironwood which is possibly some 400+ years old. The yellow ochre base is intermingled with dark purple streaks and the top of the handle shows has a beautiful pattern from the live edge of the tree. I tried to carefully shape and sand the live edge as little as possible to keep the markings that make this a unique rustic piece. The Cocobolo and Brazilian Ebony collar gives a nice accent to the richness of the Ironwood and the Sapele shaft is a nice golden brown with some chatoyance.
