Project Information

Here are two bowls I made from the filleted log in the last picture. The first bowl was ordered by my best customer in Colorado and the second one is for my neighbor,Gwyn, whose log I cut the blanks out of.
They are Ambrosia Maple. The first one is 11 7/8" Dia and the second one is 12 1/8" dia.
It was easier to work on the smaller one because I could slide the banjo on the lathe under it to turn close to the chuck. They have a little mineral streaking that keeps them from being too plain.

Those look great Jim. The streaks look like those left by the Ambrosia beetle, giving the wood the name Ambrosia Maple.

Nice set of bowls, Jim. Looks like you have enough wood to turn a plate for them.

Jim,
My what beautiful bowls! The Ambrosia figuring is outstanding, just enough to add character to the piece.

Thanks for sharing!!

Jim; they are so amazingly beautiful, I really love them!
The wood are so beautiful with the 'strpies' in, and the shapes are simple and strong.

Simple and elegant. Woodturning doesn't have to be fancy to be beautiful.
