Project Information

This box has a unique hidden compartment. The drawer has 2 rare earth magnets sub mounted with epoxy in the rear panel in the #1 and #3 positions. The hidden compartment has 2 magnets sub mounted in the #2 and #4 positions. When the drawer is inserted upside down the magnets line up in the #2 and #4 positions and "latch on" to drag the hidden compartment out. The compartment is pushed back in the box with the drawer right side up (magnets miss-aligned) where it is held in place by a very snug fit of felt glued to all sides of the interior, thus preventing it from rattling or even being shaken out.
I also used the same magnets in the box and lid to keep it closed.
The box is made of bubinga with cedar compartments and finished with tung oil. I couldn't resist the use of camouflaged felt for the hidden compartment.

That's cool.
Really good looking box. Great use of rare earth magnets as latches.
I would love to play with it in person to fully grasp how you organized these to work; seems like you have a really well hidden stash box.
Looking at your other projects, you make the coolest stuff!!

Interesting box, and a clever hiding feature!

BTW, how did you get back up off the ocean floor?
