Project Information

Here's another oak with walnut inlay. This time I played around with some oak I had cut down a while back. Drew out my pattern and split it down the middle so each side mirrored the other. I think it came out really neat. I liked it so much, that I've started another that I plan to hang up on my own wall. It's going to have lacewood for the inlay though. I'll post more when this one is complete. I'm waiting on the the stuff that goes in it. UPDATE: (12 Sep) Started the one with lacewood inlay. Found some oak with some awesome character or figure or whatever you want to call it (check out the 3rd picture above). I like the way it looks, so I'm building this one for myself. That lacewood sure is a tough wood to use the router on. I've messed up several pieces hitting some pretty hard pockets that just forces my bit to go another direction other than where it needs to go. Just had to back of a bit and take less off each turn. Anyways, I think it's going to come out nice. The different reds in the wood go pretty good together. Can't wait to get it all flush, smooth, hit it with some mineral oil and throw the poly on it! (13 Sep) - all the inlay is done and flush.

OUTSTANDING young sir… As a retired MSgt, USAF… I am exceptionally proud to see "our" USAF symbol being displayed for the rest of our LumberJocks friends to view… but also very happy with the design you came up with… and your craftsmanship. Anybody would be pleased and proud to have your "artwork and attention to detail" hanging on their wall as a memento to their service to "our" country. Well Done! Keep up the good work and look forward to your next project. Go Air Force!!!

Very nice work! I know that working with all the various angles is difficult, but when you get it right it's very satisfying. Thanks for sharing. Oh and GO NAVY! :)

This is beautiful! All the shadow boxes I'm drawn to you made. Is it for sale by chance? If not do you have any others that might be for sale? Beautiful!

I absolutely love this shadowbox. I'm retiring this summer and wondering how much it would cost to get one made and shipped to ND?

Very nice! I like the fact that it isn't like every other box out there.
