Project Information

The base was an inspiration from the book Atlas Shrugged by Ann Rand. The base is made out of Purple Heart and the joint commections are done with 1/4 inch threaded rod set in System Three Structural Epoxy. I believe the you can cut a 2X4 in half and glue it back together and be stronger than the rest of the board by adding the right steel connectors. Dentists use epopxy and metal to hold weak teeth together why not woodworkers. The granite is from Brazil. It was a stream bed from one billion years ago before there was life of any type on earth. The granite is commonly available through most granite suppliers. Sid Sutherland captainsidbad@gmail.com

A one of a kind piece. No doubt about that. Marvelous, gorgeous how can one describe a piece like this. You have made a masterpiece. Kudos.

Looks great! Really nice job - the base totally reminds me of the "Atlas shrugged" inspiration. Well done!

I saw this piece and before I read about it… I said to myself… this ought to be named Atlas Shrugged. You did a great job of capturing that thought. Well executed, fine craftsmanship.

Very nice. Except that the "granite" is not a granite but a conglomerate. (sorry, but as a geologist I just had to…)

Very creative. That book inspires more creativity than any other piece of literature, other than the Constitution. Really nice project.
