Project Information

"FLUIDITY"

I think this bird falls into the the category with the fluid looking wood grain in its wings.

With some extra time on my hands, I made this Seagull from the band saw cut-off leftovers of a Red Oak Duck I had carved. I didn't save any of the sawdust though.

This is the duck that had some interesting looking band saw cut-offs.

I thought, what could I make with these?

I had this seagull on exhibit at the County Fair once, and almost lost it. The man watching over the exhibits caught a guy going out the door with it.

Dick, I really like this one. Although one cannot condone theft, I do understand this guy's desire to have this beautiful piece.

If imitation is the most sincere form of flattery… could theivery possibly be the second?

anyhow, very nice graceful lines. The grain is particularly interesting on the wings. I love the silhouette from below.

I need to do this with all my buddies. I'm going back over all your projects that I've missed. This is a beautiful piece Dick! It may be stylized but it captures the movement of gulls better than a real life carving could. True art! All the focus goes to the movement. I half expect to see a splash any second as it hits the water.

Thanks everyone,
Whenever I have cut offs from the bandsaw, I try to imagine what I can make out of them.

That is a beatiful stylized seagull, Dick. I'm glad they caught the guy trying to steal it. What happened to him?

He was drunk, & the person at the fair just told him to go home.

Thank you Artesano,

I think the grain of the wood is what makes this carving.
