Project Information

This is a 6 drawer dresser I made for my granddaughter Haidyn Reese, born on June 30. There is a matching 4 in 1 crib that goes with it. The top, face frame, moldings, trim and drawer covers are made of solid cherry. The ends, bottom and center partition are made of 3/4" cherry plywood. The drawers are made of 1/2" baltic birch. The back and drawer bottoms are made of 1/4" masonite. If you go to my blog series you will find my shop drawings and cutting list for this dresser and the crib. I plan to put these in the bottom of the dresser so other generations can see them down the road. The dresser has 2 coats of Charles Neils Pre Color Conditioner, 2 coats of Zar Oil Based Wood Stain - Rosewood, 3 coats of General Arm R Seal Satin Urethane and 2 coats of paste wax applied with #0000 steel wool. You will notice that I have put a hidden compartment in one of the drawers. I thought my granddaughter might think it would be neat to have a secret compartment to hide things in some day. If you go to my blog series you can see in more detail how it works.

Outstanding work! Once again I got to add …" To me… This is what it is all about"

I am sure Hayden will cherish your work for ever. As will her children and theirs…. What a beautiful testament of love.

Things like this really tug on me here lately. I guess I can sum up how I feel with some of my work by quoting a conversation my bride and I had one afternoon not to long ago in the shop.

My Bride: "Ohhh now that keepsake box is coming out nice. That is going to look good on my dresser"
My reply: "It is also going to look nice sitting on my Great Grandchild's dresser as well"

Well done!
