Project Information

I love making wands… this one was a repair job from for a friend. Of course it was supposed to be a glue job, but I can't help but make something new. The Shedua stick is from the original wand, but I have been having fun making spirals of late.. thus the handle became a spiral of Yellow heart… love the contrast between the two woods.

The challenge of this one was that the original stick was tapered the whole length.. so I needed to taper the inside of the yellowheart blanks prior to turning it into the spiral. I had to insert the stick from the back, then plugged the hole with another turned piece.

Whoa! That is supercool!!

Looks really hard to get the taper right.

You did a great job!

fantastic! Great repair turned upgrade.
I've made a couple of "natural" wands. But after seeing the Art of Harry Potter Exhibit at the Museum of Science earlier this year - such intricate design work for things that might never get a close up on camera - I've been hankering to make some more elaborate ones.

I keep seeing this LED light stick at the checkout at Target and am thinking how to turn that into a "functioning" wand for the little one.

A very nice project in the future.. I can use my strips of wood to be recycled. What is the standard lenght of wands?

Yes, very nice work. I wouldn't have even thought of a wand, not that I could make one. Great piece.

I enjoy spirals too..I would have avoided tapering the spiral..I'd have flattened the stick as far as needed..seems easier. Very inventive on your part. Not many folks spiral..I've seen maybe 1-2 other than my own. Thanks for showing this

Very cool! I've thought of using the tapering idea you used on a cane. Cool seeing it applied here.

Nice wand, well done…...........
