Project Information
my grandson will be 2 this month and i have started his heirloom set of toys that his grandpa will make for him..this train set is made of several woods…red cedar, walnut, bubinga, dogwood, red oak and hard maple wheels. i wanted there to be a full length axle on these train cars so i took a long length of oak and cut it in two, then i cut a 3/16 th datto down the center and glued it back together, and ran the axle through that, i love the way it works..i made the axle cover one inch wide…enough to be able to nail it on both sides .and everything is glued as well..i also wanted to make the front guard to look like the guard without it being as its usually made, so i did a dogwood inlay into it so that it would resemble the look of the original. i also did a 1/8th inlay of dogwood into the top of the coal car..this is something he will grow into, but hes already a big train lover and hes busy pushing his small plastic one around…that just wont do…...every little boy should have a wooden train, thanks for looking….grizzman
