Project Information

This box is made from recyled several kinds of woods. Recycled wood.
Top cover is Philppine ebony (Kamagong) about 3/16 thick. I need to frame it with Red 'Balayong'
The sides are balayong, front and rear are not identified (coming from former frames a office 2×3)
The bottom is IPIL also very thin 6 mm.
The special thing is the marquetry. My first time and very time consuming. A lot of night work and gluing work. I am successful in looking for a glue that can easily sawn when dry.
I also use a simple lap joint.
Challenge: Marquetry … how long, what glue, how to cut, how to inlay….
Use lap joint for thin wood.

Fantastic box. Great work on the marquetry. Well worth the time it took.

Keep it up.

Great job, Bert. And some pretty unknown woods for most of us - it looks real nice! And to think you made it from recycled wood, that's terrific. Keep up the good work and thanks for displaying your project for us to see.

Here's a web site I found very informative on marquetry.

www.redbridgemarquetrygroup.org

Check it out. EXCELLENT tutorial section!

Thanks Big Tiny I just tried this, In some ways, mine is not really marquetry but parquetry… Some they called this banding. I have still leftover bandings. I wil glue it up on my upcoming works. It attracts people who starts wondering how I did it. ... I boastfull told them … I glue it one by one … because it is much difficult to explain the process to them as they don't know ripping and croscutting, grain direction, etc. that is why we are wooodworking…
