Hopefully, Soon my shop will be built, in the meantime I built my self a bench.
Even after trying and reading the instruction I still do not know how to upload pictures in the this post.
In the Ridgid forum, I have no problem loading pictures right from my computer, I lke this system better.
Hopefull you can see the pictures.
Bert
Turned out lovely! Very New-Fangled. Are you using the bar clamps going across as a vice, like the NF bench? Or is that just for storage? Did you stain the wood (and what kind is it, btw)?
the bench looks great! Are you using #2 southern (yellow) pine for the top? Cut down 1×12s or similar? And I guess I'm displaying my ignorance here, but what is the curved handle on the front for?
Thank you Naomi and Jim.
I shall use pipe-clamps across the bench if necessary in addition of two vises, of the hook and of hold downs.
I stain the wood with left over wood preservative and danish oil, the base to tinted with left over gel stain (I "hate" this stuff")
The curved handle in the front it to hold on after too many beers, just kidding.
In fact it is not quite yet finish, if you a a long panel or a door you just push it in the hook with hold it without any vise or clamp. It works especially well when planning.
Hi Bert, nice work. I agree that adding photos is not as easy as it could be - just messed with that yesterday…Here was what I figured out:
1> copy the photobucket DIRECT LINK and paste it into your text
2> Insert an exclamation point (!) at the beginning and end of the link
3> Click the preview button and if you got it right it will show the photo
I find that it works better if to position the insert cursor in the edit box where you want the photo and then click on the "add photo" icon above the edit box. It will ask you for:
1. the url of the photo - paste the direct link provided by photobucket
2. a short description of the photo - will come up as a "tool tip"
3. if you want to make the photo also a hyperlink - again paste the direct link so by clicking on the (possibly cropped) photo one can go to the "original" uncropped picture at photobucket (in your case).
Bert … Great job on the bench. I especially like the metal plate in the top. I think I'll pick up a steel plate at a local machine shop and do some routing on my bench … heck of an idea. Gerry
Thank you Gerry, Since I moved the bench in my new shop, it shrunk about a 1/4 wide wise.
