Project Information
Some time ago my son-in-law deposited part of an unidentified tree-stump on my drive-way. As soon as I quartered it, I realised it was going to be 'interesting'. Early this year, I bandsawed some mini-boards from one of the pieces and found a great example of Mother Nature's magic. All within one little piece were examples of spalt, ripple and burr. Oh deep joy! Mrs YS coincidentally had asked for a little box to contain her circular knitting needles, so I used those first little boards to make this simple box. In the title I haved called the wood elm. The only part of the grain that really resembles elm, however, is the distinctive strip running across the lid.
Construction of this box is by mitres with slip-feathers and the hinge is a variation on my oft-used wooden variety.
Dimensions are about 8.5" x 7" x 4.5"
