Project Information

A guy named Bob dropped off two cherry logs with my barber and called to ask if I'd turn him a Cherry bowl from the tree they cut down by his house. Well here it is -9 1/4" x 3" high. It started out 4 1/4" high but then it chipped out about 1/2" deep between two cracks. When I tried to cut off the chipped section with a fine parting tool, it chipped out 1 1/4" deep, so I carefully turned it to clean up the edge and epoxied any existing cracks. Now I have to find Bob. I lost the little piece of paper with his name and phone number so I'll have to wait until he comes in for another haircut!!

The guy's name is Bob Bristol and he picked up his bowl and loved it.
He has no more cherry wood it was al taken.

Great shape and great save. I think you "lost" his # just so you could keep this yourself. haha Just kidding.

Has this moved much, or is it just the pic? The rim looks wavy in the last pic. Gives it more character that way.

Keep it up.

Hi Dan. You are right, It warped 1/4" out of round and is not level any more. But that is what you get when turning green wood. It is a live object and I expect it to move-otherwise it would be dead!!!

I have another log and a half of cherry and I'm going to try to turn the next one with the other side out to see if I get less cracking. This one has the bark side down. I'm just lucky I finished it. If it would have chipped out any more, it might be an ashtray!.......or a coaster !!!!!! ha ha.
