Project Information

This is my newest carving that I just finished up over the weekend. It's done in pine, and I guess it can be considered piece #2 in the set, to go along with my last carving. I finished it on the same way as the last…black ultra penetrating wood stain (several coats) on the background, one coat of sanding sealer, and finished with several coats of a clear satin finish. I like the look of the natural color of the pine in contrast with the black. I'm hoping to make one more in a similar way to complete what I had in mind….making a set of 3.

All comments and critiques are welcome…..and thank you for looking!

You are definetly showing your artistic side. It's beautiful. I too thought it was much bigger and think you should try that, when you can, of course.

Another lovely carving Heidi, look forward to seeing larger ones when you attempt them. Love the french names as it adds the mystery of the female to them. Please don't ask what I mean as I don't really know. LOL.

vrey nice and I would like to say that it is not so easy to carve .pine tree, since the rings have a significant difference in hardness compare to the bright pat of the wood

I though maybe she stubbed her toe at first :)

How about some pictures of these come together….your bench, tools, ect….
A picture before finish is applied would be cool too.

Wonderful job! I really like the contrast and the grain pattern of pine.

Thanks for the suggestion Dusty56. I'm not easily offended by childish comments like that, but felt compelled to message Martin about him anyway after seeing his other totally rude comments in his comment history.

Really nice work! I do like the contrast in these last two works (not just the color either, your choice for 'gouging' up the background really makes her smooth curves and your sharp carving stand out). The forms are excellent…can't wait to see you carve some 'in-the-round' pieces.

Wonderful work, and I bet the set is gonna look really nice hanging together when finished. I am also carving on a budget, and with your talent, I bet you could do some wonderful work with natural wood right off the tree so to speak. I find branches all over, and have even located a brush pile where they are chipping wood for landscaping and have salvaged a lot of branches from there that are still in the process of drying.
