Project Information

I built this sled a couple of weeks ago to use for making new frame and panel doors for the kitchen. It is created out of MDF and a couple of WoodCraft toggle clamps

Matt was looking for jigs to use in his podcasts and so I submitted it to him. You can get the details by listening to his Router Table Coping Jig - Jig of the Week No.5 episode. He also has a PDF file with all of the construction details.

Very nice Wayne

Interestingly, I made one some 2 weeks ago but, I will not show you because you will think that I picked-up something from the junk-yard.

The one that I made is of 1/8" plywood base (I did not want to "waste" bit height) and runs on the table edge instead of miter slot.
The main problem was to adjust the fence to run at 90° to the router bit. I made it in a method that is routing the sled first and than positioning the fence. How did you adjusted it to 90°.

Matt uses listener jigs. He features one each week. You should check out his pod casts if you have not alreay.

Nothing you produce is Junk Niki. : ^ )

This jig slides along the fence. Set the bit to the fence using a strait edge. Then use the fence to guide the sled.

Thank you Wayne

I downloaded the 5.5 MB file but I could not see any video but only voice (my good old Windows 98).

Anyway, I made it like in the pics (and lets face it, it does look like a junk comparing to yours…)

Excellent jig. I have tried to utiilize different jigs on my router table, but find that the height of the jig limits the bit height. I purchased a bit extender and hopefully it will solve this issue for me. There sure are numerous times when a fixture like yours would simplify the job. Mike

Nice looking jig Wayne!! Thanks for spreading the word about my show I really appreciate it..oh yeah by the way the checks in the mail  , lol. Niki, it wasn't your windows 98 that didn't let the video through. That show was an audio only episode. The majority of my shows are audio only, good old fashion radio for the ears.

Thanks again Wayne!!!

Cool jig Wayne. Very well done.

Methinks I need to make on since it would make a great companion to my shop-made tenoning jig.

Very cool sled Wayne and Niki. If I get back to routers someday I will try making one. Lost 4 routers to Katrina. Since then have been worked more with router planes and molding porfile planes.
Mainly have to get in the new shop, though.
Again great jigs.

Wayne -

I like your jig. The jig I made runs in the miter slot. The backer with the clamps is 90 degrees to the miter slot. The body is away from the router bit and I use a piece of scrap for a backer board to help eliminate tear out. My jig is ugly and I will not take a picture of it.

Now, it is time for you to make a cabinet for your router table.

Thanks all. Perhaps I will get around to making a cabinet for the Router table. I would like to build one to go under my table saw and one for under my workbench first. Hate to see all that wasted storage space.

Wayne,

I cannot seem to find the pdf at Matt's site. Do you happen to have a copy or a link?

I missed this one. Excellent!
That's a decent table you are running on too. What are the dimensions?

Um…well, this is not a new idea, eh, since I built one almost exactly like this one about 10 years ago and used it to produce about 60 doors for my house. Mine rides the edge of the router table.

You might want to consider extending the backstop board towards the bit to act as a backer for your cuts. Without it you will get some blowout when the bit exits the cut.

Sorry Bob. 24×11. Check out the PDF in the original post. I put all of the info together for Matt and he made a PDF.

Steve, the backstop goes all the way to the bit. : ^ )
