Project Information

I've been wanting to do a box for some time, and this is the fruit of my first efforts. Wood is cherry and ebony. Finish is Danish Oil followed by semi-gloss Arm R Seal and wax. I really enjoyed box-making, and this will certainly not be my last, as the options seem limitless at this point. I still have much progress to make on my hinge installation and box top alignment techniques (though I suppose the two go hand-in-hand). All comments/critiques/criticisms are appreciated.

Very nice looking. Actually has a bit of Asian look to it with the wider feet and overhanging lid.
I like it. Well done.

I wish my first box had looked remotely as good as this one. I really like the leg design.

Hi Charlie,
Your boxes were another source of inspiration, I especially like the Padauk & Goncalo Alves Box and may try to mimic a few of the design elements in future work.

Looks great.
Box making is an area that I would also like to get into after I develop a few more skills.

great job! I have made a few boxes myself and i still have a hard time with the hinges and tops cuz of the hinges. One thing, where did you get the lid stay chain from? I can't seem to find ones that small.

Dchip - Beautiful box. I really like how you beveled the underside of the lid. It makes it feel not so heavy and is a really nice design detail. Good Job.
