Project Information

i was able to get me a new table saw with a portion of our tax money, and as tax season approached started working on this cabinet, without knowing how much i could spend and which saw i was going to be able to get, starting it was my first mistake, lol as it sits now its too tall, didnt acount for the saw height being as tall, so gotta figure something out to make it about 3 to 4 inchs shorter, i usually go into things half cocked and pay for it later, but here it is ,ill post more pics and i figure out a way to make it shorter and still have castors, any ideas i could use them thanks for looking

You can use and L-Brase a couple inches on the ends of the base. Move you wheels from the bottom to the L-Brase having only a little wheel extend past the bottom. Hope this helps.

hey don't knock half-cocked, its how i live my life LOL

I'd just call it a learning experience, I usually expect to rebuild stuff like this at least once before i get it right lol :)

Hey jpc,
Look at the mobile bases in Grizzly. They put the bottom of your cabinet 1 1/4" off the floor. I throw the the steel tubbing away and cut hard wood runners 1" thick x 1 3/4" high. Worked great on my cabinet and I had to get the TS top to 30" to accomodate my wheelchair. I'm a welder, but I figured it was cheaper to buy these than to build my own and they are rated for 500 lbs. The cost of the casters alone was unreal, even at HF> lol Rand

How about keep those cabinets for future purchases. Build a new cabinet at the proper height for your new saw. That way you will always be looking forward to new tool purchases !!!

How about build a sunken top for the saw to sit down in? You might have to sacrifice some or all of the top drawer on the left side.

Kind of like jjohnston's Idea. Have the saw set in the top drawer, let the sawdust fall to the bottom drawer - No mess to clean after you're done. just empty the drawer !

It's a beautiful cabinet.

Is there a tool in your shop that is, itself, shorter, that you could use to support THIS base, and then … build another one for the ts, at the 'proper' height?

Nice job!

It appears you did a fine job building with the pocket screws, recessed assembly etc. Great Idea for being able to use the space below the area of the saw. You could wear platform shoes.
