Project Information

This is a ball jig that I made for my mini lathe, next are a couple of depth gages I made from aluminum cut-offs.
And the next picture is a Home made laminate press. And last are a few tool rest, some still need a little cleaning and grinding on the welds so I don't drag across it with my finger while turning. I don't weld very well, but it's good enough to hold and not come apart. And angle plates for fast setup on the table saw.

Vince,

Your tools and jigs looks great. Many times I have wished I could do metal work since I can think of items that would be useful and no one makes such a thing that's affordable. It really customizes your woodworking abilities!

If the welds hold everything together they are good enough. My welding is pretty ugly, ugly but strong, my Dad was a much better welder.

Thanks for the comments guys. I made the ball jig so I can turn round balls for bottle stoppers. I figured I would make a few of them and it would be easier to do it with a jig. It's not faster but it is more consistent.
It also works well if you need a gradual arch in your turning.

How do you go about using the ball jig ? Is the steel rod anything special ( grade wise)?

Dusty,
The steel rod is just a 1/4-20 bolt with the head cut off. Any grade of metal will do. The bolt I used is stainless steel.
The cutter is a HSS tool bit I got from Enco.

Hi Vince, You are a man after my own heart. I love making my tools too. Were you a toolmaker in the past life?
I like the tools you made. How do the disc sanders work? Do they spin while snading?
Have you tried gas welding alumiinum yet?

Jim,
The disk sanders are fixed, but I do plan on making a spinner. As for gas welding aluminum. I have never done it
