Project Information
Dusty56 posted a project on Business card Holders.
Bob # 2 posted a jig on making Business Card holders like Dusty designed.
The making of Business cards didn't strike my todo mind until Bob posted his. I thought that would be great for 4 of my children who work in jobs that require Business Cards.
So I started out with some of my Gloat Wood. pieces of wood.
It's some Maple Burl Lumber
I cut a couple of pieces off the end of the board and then resawed it into 1/2" thick pieces. I then thickness sanded them to get then smooth on both sides. It ran anywhere from 3/8 to 7/16 thick. I stopped sanding each piece when it became smooth.
I then random orbital sanded them to get rid of the scratch pattern from the thickness sander.
I finished the pieces with sprayed 2lb Shellac and after about 6 coats I lightly sanded with 400 grit and then French Polished about 10 sessions.
I used Painters Tape to mark the drill locations on the bottom of the pieces. That kept me from having pencil marks on the finished wood.
The holes were drilled and the card holders were screwed in place.
I didn't cut the corners of the blanks like Bob and Dusty. I used a mini router bit set to cut the molding edges. The edge cut was only done on the three sides that were cut on the saw. The bark seems to be holding great.
The spouses of the gift receivers will get a pen.
