Project Information
Made this coat rack for my son for Christmas last year. I work for a company that makes gun stocks, so the gun stock was a reject from work. Fixed it up and it is ready to go. I lathed the barrel and action on my trusty shopsmith lathe, added a reject metal bolt action to it. The board was going to be a throw-away board that my grandfather had from 50 or more years ago. It is hard maple, and was a past buffet for the termintes. they were all dead and gone. When I saw that this board was still sound and hard, I ran it through the planer and a dust storm came out of it. Took the air hose and cleaned up all of the worm holes and BAM! The light went off in my mind that this was a golden nugget of a board to use for something! I dark glazed the board, left it dry and then sanded off the surface with an orbital sander. The face was clean, but the worm holes were still dark with the glaze. Scrap to a treasure! 5 sheen sprayed laquer and there it is! Thanks for looking.
