Project Information

This is a project I built a while ago but didn't post here.
After getting tired of cleaning the filter on my shop-vac and also to see how easy it would be to build a full size big one, I decided to add a cyclone to my shop-vac (using Bill Pentz plans). Installed it on my Ridgid vaccume.

This thing really SUCKS!! and I mean it in a good way :)
After using it for a while and filling the bucket a few times there is very little dust in the filter compartment.
A very worthy upgrade!

You can find the plans by going to billpentz.com. You will find a wealth of info there to include a toxicity index for many kinds of wood.

Nice, I have a cyclone and need to mount it to the vac so they stay together.

So cool! I've been trying to figure out how to do something like that.

Thanks for posting your design.

I bought a shop vac cyclone from clearvue I can't speak highly enough of those guys. The cyclones works great and the customer service is OUTSTANDING. I broke mine and went on to their forum to ask about the best glue to use to fix it. The owner was monitoring the site and just sent me a new one. He told me how to fix my old one and said I could fix it and have two of them if I wanted or I could throw it out. He didn't care what I did with the old one. I said it was my fault that it broke but he didn't care. He said he didn't believe that I should have been able to break it and wanted me to have a new one. I paid NOTHING for the replacement. This wasn't during the first 30 days or anything either.

Pretty clever, but is it top-heavy?

thanks for the comments.

The cyclone has a ramp inside (will try to post a photo later). It's basically a scaled
down version of the Pentz design. It's about 6" in diam.

As for top heavy: it is top heavy BUT the center of gravity is inside the bucket, also
the location of the hose connection means you pull it to the opposite side of the motor, so not likely to tip over (at least has not happened to me).

This looks great , If I have the funds to purchase instead of building I do, but I admire folks who take the time and effort to build there own equipment .

I can't say enough about Bill Pentz's contribution to our air quality in our shop. He has spent a lot of time and money designing the ultimate dust collector for all to use for free. I have e-mailed him several times and he is
a special person in deed. His failing health due to air contaminants prompted this design. Great job on the scale down model.
