I had problems on a black walnut project where that material left a residue that could not be removed without sanding out. It did not become really visible until I put the first coat of finish on the wood. Fortunately that first coat is a seal coat and thin.

I never used the shelf liner material again.

Have you guys found a better product to use? I've been thinking of making some as well. Thanks!

Depending on the size of the project I just use old towels or a moving blanket to protect the project from the table surface.

Todd, that's not what it's for, it's for keeping wood from moving without clamping or holding when you sand or rout it.

That is what I am talking about.

Using that material under black walnut and using a router and RO sander caused an imprint of residue that did not show up until I put the first coat of finish on the wood.

I now use a towel or for big projects a moving blanket under the wood to protect it from the surface of the table. There has to be a buffer between the table and project surface.

The towel and blanket provide enough friction to keep from slipping in most cases.
