Project Information

Instead of throwing away my old BBQ cart, I made good use of it. As shown on the picture, I built a cabinet out of 3/4" MDF to stabilize the flimsy frame of the BBQ stand, added three shelves and installed this small router table, which is dedicated to a chamfering station, and my benchtop router/shaper. I keep the extra shelf for the stock to be milled and/or accessories. I will add at least one drawer in the lower cabinet to store more accessories. A door would have been nice but the wheel would be in the way.

In my basement workshop, it's important to have my tools on wheels. But his time, at no cost.

To be honest, I also saved two BBQ carts my neighbours threw away last fall, as shown. For more details, check my website at http://atelierdubricoleur.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!2ED8F7A23848B4AE!1321.entry

I believe this is good recycling and good use of junk! Practical too!

Best,

Serge

Absolutely wonderful. I participate in a website called Free Cycle where you can give away unwanted items you may have no more use for or you can ask for items that people have and they are going to throw them away or just don't want the item anymore. I have asked on there for unwanted BBQ carts on wheels. Just maybe…..

Serge, Great job on recycling. Looks better than when it was a BBQ grill. Very useful. I did that to my old BBQ grill, but for a chop saw. built a top frame from MDF with extension wings and it works perfect. I can roll it around in the shop or take the saw off if I want to take it to a job site. I like your idea even better. I may end up with a shop full of BBQ grills. lol.

Another idea. The next BBQ cart I'll get (should be a gift from a neighbour) will be transformed into a mobile kitchen island. I will keep the frame flat black and I will add a gloss finished pine cupboard within the cart. The top will propably be a butcher block. To be sure it will work and satisfy everyone around here, I brought the third cart you see up there and left it in the kitchen for several days. Everyone agrees !

That should be a nice kitchen island on the cheap and innovative side. Should bring lots of discussions around it ! To be followed…

Best,

Serge

You did a great job with yours …much fancier than the one I created 12 years ago. It got the job done however , and that's all that mattered at the time to me : )

Great use of that cart.

I threw one out a few months ago, it would have been nice to have seen this earlier.

Thanks for the idea!

I love it…I have done the same thing in the my shop years ago. This is the time of year where people will be putting the old used grills out by the road. On one that I had I replaced the plastic wheels with lawn mower wheels to help carry a heavier load.

How many times have I drove past one of these eyesores sitting out along the road destined for the scrap heap! Never again, next time that forgotten treasure is mine ! One can never have enough mobile carts down in the work shop. Thanks Serge for reinforcing My L J motto, great idea !

Take a look at this treasure my neighbour put on the side of the road yesterday evening.

This one should be a potting cart for the garden. I will share the result when done.

Best,

Serge
