Project Information
As you can see, I have a hard time building a square box. Found this picture the other day of a desk I designed and built a few years ago. Only have the one picture. (sorry). I get these crazy thoughts in my head sometimes and can't let it go until I build it. Did it just as a challenge to myself. This was my first curved piece. The wood for the very top, face trim and base is Mahogany. The white is actually a veneer that was finished natural. (That's the actual color of the veneer). It's a processed veneer that was a layered Beech, Pearwood and White birch. It's a unique process where they layer the veneers and somehow twist it and then reslice it. It gives it an awesome look. I can't find the manufacturer anymore, so don't know if they went out of business or what. Up close, it looked almost like a white lacewood. The back splash and knee area is actually a laminate. The drawer is of course dovetailed and I used a drawer kicker so didn't have to use a pull.
The main part of the desk was done with bendable plywood, layered around a form I built, then veneered.
Fun project and a great challenge. Wanted to keep the desk, but an Interior Designer saw it a wouldn't take no for an answer. Oh well, wish I would have taken more pictures at the time.
