Another padauk and maple box. I liked the design and woods of the previous attempt so thought I would try it with the white maple instead of the spalted. It looked pretty plain so I added the padauk strip. I dont think I like it as much as the spalted maple but I'm sure I can swap it for some truffles or something.

Nice design. I like the asian feel to it. Great choice of woods but I agree, the spalted maple gives it more pop.

great build. Keep it up.

Very Cool. Love the sloping sides. Looks like the interior is square, did you construct it and then cut the angles into the sides?

Another great box.

The tapered sides and the wood choice make this one a keeper.!

Chris,

It was made that way, square and then cut on the angles. This box is a straight copy of my previous attempt which has another sentence or two on the construction.

"The box is made as a standard straight walled mitered corner box with standard identical miter keys top and bottom. After the glue dried I raised the table saw blade as far as it would go, tilted it 6 degrees and sliced all four walls of the box. The lid is tapered at 10 degrees. The lid is short compared to the box so I had to give it more taper so it didn't look straight up and down."

Mr. Climber,

Nice, but I agree and I like the spalted version better.

It is interesting to me that this and the last one have an Asian feel to them which I really like. I believe this is a take-off on one of Doug Stowe's boxes. His version which has straight sides and the two spines placed next to each other has an arts and crafts feel to it. Well interesting to me…
