You might be on to something Jerry. Looks good. You need to experiment to improve designs. I've been thinking the same about moving on to something different. Your headed in the right direction.

Thanks Dave, that's what I was going for. On the next one I'm going to try some Chinese style interlocking joinery. I'm hoping to make it without any glue.

Jerry, nice design. I like the concept. You might want to look at this post from a few years back. It has some of the same concepts you are working on. The solution for me was (surprise) splines. I also made a jig to taper the one piece legs. It was early work and I had weak camera skills, but this post uses similar ideas to think about.

Yes, you got it right, Oak for the legs, Jatoba for the sides, Alder for the top and bottom, and Zebra wood for the handle.

Al, what incredibly beautiful boxes! Thanks for sending me those links. I can see I need to study your finishing techniques. Beautiful! Thanks for commenting.

Oriental design is a very good choice, indeed looks beautiful. Those oak legs and handle realy pop out.

Jerry, that is a nice looking box. You surprised me with the lid, I thought it was just the alder sitting on top of the box. I like surprises! :)

Very nice - an interesting, fresh look!

How is the box joined? Are the corners dovetailed with the corner blocks hiding the endgrain?

Did you glue the corner parts or use fasteners? I noticed the grain runs perpendicular to the side parts and wasn't sure if this mattered.

It turned out great, Jerry. You did a great job. I am looking forward to more in this new design concept.
