Jewel found at an auction!

I just had to gloat a little tonight.

I decided to leave work early and go to a local auction today. The ad stated there would be some woodworking equipment there. Never one to turn down the chance to get something else for the garage/shop I decided to drive the 30 minutes. I did call ahead, and all they could tell me is that all the woodworking equipment was for a small shop (perfect for me.)

So even without a listing I took the chance. I was a little worried when I got there. Even before seeing the equipment I noticed that there was probably over 400 guys walking around. "Good luck getting a deal," I told myself.

The owner had just about everything and almost everything was Delta brand. Drill press, jointer, osc. spindle sander, table saw, disk/belt sander, chop saw…. and a performax 16-32 Drum Sander w/moveable base and feed/outfeed extentions. I decided that I would stick around and take a shot at the Drum Sander. Since all I really need was that or a lathe. I do a lot of endgrain cutting boards and this would be such a great time saver.

Bidding started at $50.00 and of course it went up…..... and then I was a little shocked! They pointed at me and said "Winner" and we were only at $335. I guess everyone else was there for the plasma cutters and welders.

I had that thing in my vehicle before someone decided a mistake had happened and started the bidding over again.

Yep, I am a very happy camper tonight.

hahaha, yeah, I would probably do the same. give them the money, snag it , put in the car, and leave with smoking tires before they figure out there was a mistake… LOL

nice catch! that would be a super helper for your cutting boards…

If I would have known that I was going to get such a great deal I would have gotten some of the other tools. The jointer went for $130, drill press $125, osc spindle sander $110, a CMT router station for $140, and a multi-station table that had a 1" vertical belt sander and a 6" disk/belt sander combo that went for $120.

I think I will enjoy this a lot. I do a lot of craft shows and anything that can help me make the cutting boards I sell is always a bonus.

Wow what a great deal!!!! A few years ago I saw an ad in the paper for a drum sander, a lathe, a planer and a drillpress. I called right away to go see. When I got there I told him I would buy everything. It was a Jet drillpress (upgrade), the planer was a Powermatic 13" (upgrade), a Performax 16-32 drumsander (needed)and the lathe was the 36" Jet (which I didn't need but it came with about $650.00 worth of lathe tools).I got everything $775.00. These kind of deals rarely come along but when they do it is a great feeling. Congrats!!!

That was a good deal. I have seldom bought tools auctions because they normally end up being overpriced by the time the bidding fever ends. But you bought a nice piece of equipment at a bargain price.

Nice score.

Delta Tenoning Jig 34-184 at Lowes!

Just a heads up to anyone near a Lowes. I stopped in my local Lowes during my lunch hour today just to look at all the lovely power tools. While walking down one of the isles that contain secondary equipment I noticed a clearance tag on some Delta Branded items. Usually these don't catch my eye, but then I noticed the tag was for a Tenoning Jig. So, got down on my knee to look on the lower shelf. There is was… a single, unopened, Delta 34-184. This is the same Jig that is featured in the latest issue of Wood Magazine. (Top Tool rating I believe).

So, I took a closer look at the clearance tag and had to pick up my chin from the floor. Yep, they had the jig priced at the large amount of $25.74….. Yes, that is correct. So, with Tax I walked out the door with a Delta Jig for $27.28

I don't think anything can happen at work for the rest of the day that will get my spirits down.
