Project Information
Browsing in some magazines I came across the concept of a blackboard. The picture that I saw had one embedding into a door. I thought long and hard about tearing up a door and then mounting a chalkboard inside. It seemed like a lot of work and something that could go terribly wrong, so I came up with this modified version that was a little less daunting
I measured the board to fit the top 4 panels of a 32 inch wide door. I then cut some 1/4 MDF to size and used 4 inch trim. I had to recess the 1/4 into the trim, so a used a dado blade to cut the groove. I glued and braded it all together and then finished sanding it down. I bought two wreath hangers and bend them flat on one side so I could attach them to the board. It now hangs perfectly over the 4 panels, but I didn't have to ruin my door.
My wife is a great painter, so she painted it black, applied a crackle, and then painted red overtop. The result was awesome. It really looks great!
