Project Information

Its been awhile since I have posted a project as I am thousands of miles from home at my grand daughters Gr. 8 graduation. This Box is a combination of Black Walnut and Birch. Quite simple construction.
Laminating the Walnut to the birch allowed me to make the box out of one small board of walnut I was saving for something special, and it is going to someone special.

The top piece was fractal burned, inset and epoxy finish poured on it to give a super smooth nice finished top. The rest was done with ***************.

She thought the box was GRAND.

I put together a short video, on some considerations that I do when I glue a Box together, and thenI brings to your attention a sawblade I use on the table saw, that I have found a joy to use for boxes and a number of other things. then away to not have to use so many clamps, a brilliant idea as some of you already know. Here is a link:

Beautiful box Brian !
The top is just awesome looking of like trees and the little girl looks like she is totally impressed with your gift .
I will have to somehow try this burning method and use it on one of my future boxes it just fascinates me .
I also watched your video but I don't see the part where you did the epoxy coating .

-Next week is the grand son's Gr 12 graduation, I will be featuring another box and the method I use to mix epoxy, it may be a little overboard and scientific but it works every time. The burning takes abit to get it like you want it, it is not as simple as it sounds, you just see the best ones, I read and watched allot, gathered some ideas and hope to do my own video version of fractal burning. I thought I had it right after these but then tried it again and it was a flop. It was a cold day and maybe that was it, more experiments.

Beautiful box Brian! I'm intrigued about the fractal burning. Looks like I have some research to do! I also have never worked with epoxy. So much to learn, such little time. Thanks for sharing your project.
