YES! RIBBONS are AWESOME!!! way to go thats very nice. The county fair is coming to my town the end of the month and I too may see if I can win the sought after and elusive RIBBON!!!! Tell us how you did that.

That is one beautiful bowl. Musta taken quite a while to do. I think that would have won in any class, not just novice. Incredible.

Nice looking crotch, well you know what I mean. What lathe are you using? Great looking finish and beautiful lines with the heartwood and sapwood.

Spaids: Take the crotch and split it along the pith, let dry. You can turn it wet but you have to tuen it to finish because it will warp and may split. Mine wasn't as dry as I tought. you can see the wings have curved down. Turned between centres to create a tenon on the bottom and most of the bottom is turned this way.
Reverse and put it in a chuck, turn the top.

BSD:It was turned in a couple of hours. Finishing took days.
