Project Information

History: So about a year ago my wife and I went to NY City for a week. We fell in love with the city and had an absolute blast of a time. During our many adventures we picked up a sky line oil painting from one of the street vendors on the High Line (Old Above Ground Sub Way Line). I have kept the painting safely tucked away, and I'm pretty sure she (and myself for that matter) forgot about it.

Recently, I ran across the painting and decided to make a frame for it. I had some Black Walnut and Red Mahogany that would work great for this. Pretty strait forward process. 10 angles cut on the rails, and a nice matting surface for a clean butt joint. Used biscuits and kreg jig to secure the butt joints. Slight chafer (45) on the corners.

But a surprising thing hit me during this project. Nervousness/Excitement… You see my wife and have been together 12 years (I'm 32 and she in 29), and were relatively young when we got together. While I was making this frame I realized how many memories we have together that I cherish. While I was mounting the painting it quickly hit me what this simply street vendor painting meant to my wife and I. After I finished everything, I wrapped it up for her. I waited until she went to sleep to set it out for her before I went to bed. As I was on my way to work this morning I waited with school boy giddiness in anticipation of my wife call about her gift. Hoping that my hand written V-Day card conveyed the feelings for her and why this hand made simply frame and painting reminds me of.

Well, I hit a home run apparently!!! She loved it and is showing every woman she works with! Go Me!!!

I've never had such a emotional connection with a project that struck me the way this did. Either cupid got me, or I done messed up and stepped in some feelings gents…. Any ideas on how to get these feelings off my boots?

I hope everyone has a day, and don't forget the loved ones in your lives! As always, comments and recommendations are welcome.

Good thing you did a good job on the frame as it sounds like to might be looking at it for the foreseeable future. Love does funny things to ya. Just roll with it. Great story too.

Hooray for man. Once in a while we get it right in all accounts. The frame enhances the picture very well. Bravo!
