Very straight forward, didn't have a lot of time to make it.

A note for anyone making this type of box. The top is full thickness except around the edges. In doing this, the screws for the hinges are into the lip - it is thin and splits easily. In retrospect, there are better ways to do this.

When in a hurry-need I say more?

David I had the same issue with lid on my wife's "toolbox". I used larger screws and tapped the hole with a steel screw then cut the ends of the brass ones. It worked out well.

It was a design error on my part. I was planning to put a handle on the top so I used larger screws to handle the weight.

In this, 5 of the 6 screws started to split the edge so I took the screws out, filled the holes with epoxy, put the screws back in and clamped it overnight.

When I clamped it, got just a little trace of epoxy squeezing out the top cracks. That did a lot to firm things up.

Next time, I will not remove all the material off the top along the back edge where the hinges are and remove the material from the box instead. A 1/4" would have made all the difference.

Once they split like they did, I moved to handles on the sides.

This is an exceptional piece. I'd love to know more about the joinery and the build. Great work. Thanks for sharing

Hand cut dovetails on all of the joinery. On the bottoms - 1/4" bottoms hand planed down to fit in a 1/8" notch.

Glued one dovetail in each corner because it is a box with handles. Otherwise, I would not glue any of them. The bottom panels are not glued.

Simple, clean and done.
