Project Information
I was looking through some old drawing pads and came across an idea for a hawk handle cane. I drew it up thirty years ago. Never could have made it thirty years ago, but figured I might get away with it today. The wood came from my scrap pieces. The maple design didn't go all the way through. Next time I'll use two pieces of wood that I can see the design better. That piece I cut in half from a rough log. Still looks okay though. I made a purple heart dowel to attach through out. Thought I'd give it a little more heart. The handle is cherry from a tree I cut and saved for years just for canes. It was a five inch branch when it started. The scrimshaw I did from an old cribbage board I cut a slab off. It's walrus ivory. The drawing is not an original drawing. It's from a famous Wolf painting. I've always loved it , so incorporated it into the design. I'm using boiled linseed oil to finish, so won't be totally finished for quite a while, but I don't care I'm keeping this one for the day I need it.
