Project Information

This is a picture frame and sign I made for my Sister in law. The wood is from her and my brother in law's cabin which was torn down earlier this year and replaced. Getting the miters for the corners was quite a challenge considering the age and condition of the wood. Routering for the glass and backer board crated a new challenge. I also tried to get a flow around the frame using one board and matching. She plans to put a picture of the original cabin in the frame. The frame she asked me to make, the sign was a surprise. It was fun working with this old wood but looking where I cut the letters makes me wonder what kind of wood would be revealed if it was planed. It's a beautiful golden brown. Thanks for looking!

Beautiful memory and gift. Nothing looks so romantic as old piece of wood turned into something new and different, with some other purpose.

Turned out great Jeff considering the challenges. The only benefit is the end product when finished. Nice work. Cool addition giving them the sign also.

Thanks for the comments guys. They really miss the old cabin but it's time had come and gone. I really enjoy using their wood to help the memories live on. The sign is the name she uses to sell baked goods at a local farmers market. Thanks for the nice comments guys.

Thanks for the comments guys. They both seemed to really like them. These are going to decorate the new cabin they are working on in addition to the small table I made earlier.

Nice!
I like reclaimed rustic frames.
My mother loved the first one I made, asked for more, and was happy to make more (before digital cameras).

Very good and you know the "history" of the wood.
