Project Information

This is another picture frame I just finished. I am proud of the way the miters came out this time. The 45 has always been my Achilles heel, always seem to have trouble with them. I tried something new this time and it came out great. First I installed a new Irwin marples blade on my miter saw, then gave it a good calibration. When I made the cuts, angles on the left side of the blade I labeled "A". The right side I labeled "B". Then in assembly I matched A to B. I then cut a cove around the outside of the frame. This was my Son's idea. Made from Pine board and stained with provincial stain. Three coats of gloss polyurethane. The picture is of Molly, a cat we sadly lost earlier in the year. I really enjoyed making this frame for my Son as he does all my project photography. Thanks for looking!

Poor Molly got framed, but in a nice way. Really looks good with the cove on it. I favor this one more Jeff. Is this the same barn wood as the other one? Looks much lighter.

Thanks Dave. The cove was my Son's idea. No, this is not the same wood. This was fresh stock from big box store. I would like to plane some of the barn wood to see whats inside. I think it's wormy chestnut but not sure. Now that would make a beautiful frame! Thanks for looking and the nice comment!

You have every right to be proud of those miters. The whole frame came out perfect.

Thanks guys. As I said I tried something new. It's nice when you try something and it works out. I may have found a way to take the fight out of those miters.

Thanks Vicki, My Son is quite the photographer and does all my projects. (He makes me look good). So I really like making custom frames for his photography.

Beautiful image of a beloved pet and a great frame, Jeff. May I suggest in future frames you make them big enough for a matt to provide a bit of separation of the frame and the image. Really brings it to the next level. Glad you have conquered the miter! I know you are pumped (I would be)!
