The Incra Positioner is awesome… If a rookie like me can fake a dovetail like this …It's gotta be the machine….LOL…. I'll get better as time goes along…. Actually I made this box for a guy that got me a bunch of teak, maple, walnut and cedar….for Free… He must have given me 250 feet of this wonderful wood most lengths were over 8'...... Thanks for the kind comments….

OH…. I'm going back for another load…LOL…Just for your info… If you go by some of these cabinet shops…and get to know some of the guys…. sometimes they over estimate jobs… and all of them have scrap wood…. they love people coming by to take it off their hands…. the cabinet shop I got this wood from has loads of wood they get rid of on a regular basis…. they simply don't have the room to store it all… this is just one source I use to get good wood…. I'm not beyond tearing apart old oak desks to salvage wood…. most of my projects come from recycled wood…. although..the wife is not biting on the used wood thing for the kitchen cabinets I'm about to undertake….LOL…

I'm with oldskool on rubbing it in on the free wood, but appreciate your recovery by explaining how we might be able to enjoy the same. Thanks! And I like the box, too!

Mike… You don't believe me…and that's a good thing in this case… I swear I have never made another dovetail box…. That's the one and only… and unfortunately I have to give it away….LOL….Believe me this system that Incra has developed has changed the way to make precision cuts like this …I found out about this on YouTube… If you go to Incra.com you can watch this guy make dovetails like they're nothing… They've revolutionized the way to make dovetails…. The funny thing about this is …after I decided to buy the system (which is not cheap) I called the company to make the purchace…. The guy that took my order turned out to be the guy in the video LOL… I told him the application and configuration I was using this for, I really don't think he totally understood me…. When i completed the nessessary work I sent him a pic… He was helpful in giving me some ideas to improve my set up… Truthfully… I haven't taken his ideas yet because …as is, it's working pretty well…. I've always been handy, but never this handy…. I guess i'm improving…LOL…

Thanks for the comments …Happy and safe woodworking….

Hi there Alisrair… It does take some time to set this positioner up… especially initially… However …I can see where you could get real good at making dovetails with a little practice… the videos helped… getting that center line is of utmost importance…. Maybe, I just got lucky…. I'll be making some more boxes as everybody I know who has seen it, wants one…LOL… They'll be great gifts…. I'm glad you commented on the box joints… I have yet to try one… I'm continuing to make test cuts but now I just got an order for 6 Quoit boards and about 6 cutting boards….LOL… So that'll take the next couple of weeks up…. this is supposed to be fun…LOL… Actually, it's great being busy….

Thanks for the nice comments ….

Ahh, Teak, lovely wood choice, one of my all time favorites! Good on you to find a free source! :) The cabinet shops around here are generally pretty picked over, so I have bad luck. Those joints are phenominal… I would think you a master woodworker. Going to the Incra website right after I finish typing this. Nothing is cooler than making myself look better than I am!

degoose…. I really don't think you can go wrong with the Incra products… It seems as though they think outside of the box….. As i said.. this was my first crack at making dovetails…Frankly, I didn't expect these kind of results…. It's nice to have the support and the feedback you guys give…You all are an inspiration..

Thanks,

Rob
