Project Information

This was a simple pine box made on a request by my mother. I used wood filler over the entire surface, and then 7 thin coats of black laquer. Sanding inbetween coats working up to fine steel wool. Then I painted the roses with model enamels and one last coat of clear laquer. This mirror finish part of the project was so much fun and I will definately do it again someday. It's so hard to get it perfect (and believe me, this one isn't).

Beautifulllllll!! Nice of you to leave in an imperfection, just like the masters did. Love it! Great roses. Super shine.

Exquisite looking box! Beautiful job on this one. What a wonderful gift for your Mom. You need to show more pictures of each of your works. Lumberjocks like pictures. Thanks for posting.

God Bless

very impressive. I typically like to see the wood grain but this one has changed my mind. You have talent. Can we see the inside?

Beautiful work! No doubt someone else (at least a non-woodworker) will never notice any imperfection!

the only thing wrong with this project is that there are not more pics, great job.

Thanks so much for all of the positive feedback everyone! :)
I'll try to remember to get some more pictures of it the next time I'm over at her house.

@NYRockingChairs: The laquer is rust-o-leum rattle can, most displays seem to have it. Wish I could find something more "traditional" but it worked great. Very thin stuff though, it'll run easy.

Again, thanks for the warm reception everyone!

Thanks, I have heard mixed reviews of the Rust-o-leum stuff. Good to see it worked out for you.
