Project Information

We just moved into our new house at the end of March this year. My wife needed a bookcase to keep her cookbooks handy in our new kitchen. She wanted a narrow bookcase that would fit between the wall and a radiator cover in the corner of the breakfast nook. I used a piece of leftover cherry plywood from our kitchen remodel as the rear panel. The base is taken from plans for a night stand in an issue of Woodsmith and was my first real attempt at mortise and tenon joinery. It wasn't perfect, but I'm pleased with the result. The crown molding is a scaled-down version I came up with based on a couple of other book cases I made. I used Minwax pecan Polyshades which looked pretty close to the pre-stained cherry panel that I used for the back, but it didn't quite match here because I used birch plywood - still kind of close. I put a darker stain on the crown molding and base. Wife is very happy with the result therefore so am I. Hope you like it, comments and questions welcome.
