Project Information
I had mentioned previously in a blog of "Things" that things typically, but not always start off in black and white. Maybe they begin as a drawing, or that they simply aren't clear in our minds. When these things become clear in our minds they typically become clear in color. Our things start as small things. We hold them, turn them, cut them, shape them, give them our attention and love. We strive to care for them as if they were an egg, whereas if dropped it would be damaged, possibly rendering them useless. Those things become things of scrap, kindling, or trash. We can cut our things either by hand or by machine. In this instance the things were cut by machine to size, then shaped by hand to turn them into puzzle things. Put the things together and you get stuff. Stuff that could possibly sit around on a shelf or be used harmoniously, or by some negligently. If we care about our things, our stuff we will put our hearts into them, making them as flawless as possible. Believing that we are human will help us mentally accept the imperfections we will most likely have. Maybe a misscut, missalignment, or an overlooked mistake. We can accept these because we are not machines, and our things are not forgiving when we fumble them. Our visions are not always the same as one anothers. Your things, your stuff may be something unexpected and inspiring. They may also be unemotional, unexceptable, or unbearing. Either way it is your stuff, the things you love brought together to make your vision a reality. Every vision being different. We may accept one anothers vision, we may not. It is called criticism and I certainly welcome it all.
This project is made of Maple, Alder, and Walnut. The drawer is to be pulled out completely and has a tray that can slide or be removed. This drawer will be lined with velvet. The finish is Minwax wipe on poly, 2 coats as of yet and will recieve a third. The dovetails were cut by hand. The base is doweled together. Diminsions are 8w X 12H X 5 1/2 deep total. The handles were shaped by hand. The legs were cut on a scroll saw and then sanded on the oscillating sander. I cut them on the scroll because the bandsaw currently has no power, and I will make due with the tools I have. I respect all comments positive or negative, and welcome words of wisdom as to what I could do to better improve my designs and craftmanship.
