These look to be a winner. Nice added feature with the maple. I'm still a traditional rolling pin guy but these may get their attention. Good luck.

yes these look better, my favorite project to give away and I do sell some, I use them and find fr my self a smaller flat area work better, allow more freedom to change directions to put the dough where you want it for square corners. Even a full taper works well.

Even a full taper works well. I use the metal lathe with a simple attachment to quickly make an accurate curve, have two patterns to make a full curve and a flat area.

Thank you all for the nice comments. I like these much better with the bigger taper.

Hi Keith. You sure make some classy rolling pins. I like your setup!! I have a Southbend metal lathe with a taper shoe on it and it might be able to be set up with a big curve to follow, too. But, I have a duplicating attachment for a wood lathe that I have never used. I was going to get it set up on my Nova lathe to cut baseball bats. In fact, I bought a new Louisville Slugger for a pattern. This continuous curve on a rolling pin would be a natural for it
I don't roll out dough to know enough about ease of use. I will have to find some bakers to see what they prefer. I can see how the full curve would let you change direction easily. I though a good flat area would make for a better uniform thickness of the dough. This one has a 10 wide flat.

Hi Lew. I have not put a Celtic knot in one yet but I think I know what I did to screw up the one I put in a cane. I have a piece of maple coming today for a second shot at it!

Hi Randy. I sure try to get on that lathe every day for something. I'm going there in a few minutes.

Cheers, Jim
