Project Information
One of the main purposes of this posting is to post link to demonstration videos of the steps I use to lathe a bowl, I help people on the technique whenever I can and I hope these video's will help them remember what I have shown them and you may find them interesting as well. Two of the bowls shown above where done during the demo's. I used the lathe that I made a couple years ago and can be viewed at this link.

I divided the video into three sections
1. Introduction, homemade lathe, cutting and preparing the blank to start lathing 4:13
2. Lathing the bowl, outside, inside, attaching chuck. 8:34
3. Completing the bowl, ready for finish. 5:36
Or can be watched one as a complete play list.
I made two videos of the complete time to hollow out a 12 in bowl if you just want to watch the chips fly.
One of a natural edge and one of a flat rim
Or both together.
You must note that this is the first ime I have made Utube video's so are very amateur, but I wanted to share them with you and I thought you would find my lathe interesting. I makes things as round as a Oneway and most likely just as fast. The cost fit may pocketbook as I just lathe for fun and love to watch the chips fly.
COMMENTS ARE APPRECIATED AND WILL GIVE ME THE COURAGE TO DO MORE OF OTHER THINGS.
A friend of mine drove 300 miles over a few weeks ago to get some instruction, and visit too. As I said I enjoy teaching what I have learned.
I have just finished a large all steel lathe made entirely of scrap iron that I will post soon, If you thought this one was interesting you will want to see this one in action.
Just about 80 years but caught on quickly to cutting the wood and not scraping and was soon shooting out ribbons of chips, not as aggressive I was but did a great job. In fact so good we microwaved the bowl and finished it the next day. The wood block had a crack in it I thought he would just cut for practice. His wife knitts all the time so I cut the crack line out and made it into a knitting bowl. She put it richgt to good use. Knitters always have their knitting with them,
My son even had a try at it and did real well to when they came to visit.
Well I had better not put any more pictures on or you will be really bored, I thought of putting a picture of my new SUPPER DUPPER SCRAP IRON LATHE. as a preview, but I quess you will just have to wait…..
Thanks for looking and comment appreciated.
