Project Information

Here is another canoe. Once again it is done with plans from Building A Strip Canoe, by Gil Gilpatrick. This is the Wabnaki model, and is 16' long. It's three feet wide in the center, 12" deep, and weighs around 65 pounds. If you would like more information and a whole bunch of pictures, I did a blog also. Sorry, I don't know how to put in a link for the blog, you will have to look for 'Cedar strip canoe build', you will find the series. The hull is White Cedar, the gunwales are Ash, the seat frames are Birch, and the decks are Elm. I really enjoy a canoe build, but have other projects waiting. I hope you check out the blog, any questions and comments are welcome. Thanks for looking.
Update - Here is a link to the blog, Thank you to joeinga, and Sasha, for helping me to get this link here.

Jeff, this is a beautiful vessel. Did you baptize it with a bottle of wine and give it a name? This must take a lot of skill and know how. Congratulations.

I admire the time and effort put into building this type of canoe, you have done a great job, when you day white cedar, is that the yellow cedar variety found on the west coast.

Wow! How can I get in touch with your sister? Perhaps she needs another, log distance boy friend? Seriously, this is such a beautiful project, I am just really impressed.

WOW, It Abruptly….... Huge work. I take off a hat and A little bit (Slightly - slightly) I envy. I would like to sweep (to swim) and to sweat properly. All kind….....

bushmaster, this is Northern White Cedar. I don't think it grows out west, it's an east coast thing. Thanks for the comment.

Sasha, the last picture is wetting out the cloth. It is fiberglass cloth and I am applying epoxy to the cloth. When you soak the cloth through, it becomes transparent. Hope this helps. Thank you for commenting.

Wow. Very nice to see. I don,t need a boat, but only for the fact that this thing is so beautiful I would give it a try to build one. I have to restrain myself. Well done.
