Project Information

This is another box from my in-laws fire wood pile. It's a small jewelry box for my wife , I inset a penny dated 1975, the year we were married ( got extra points for that ). I inlayed some stone in the lid and also used my new hinge system that works really well and looks good with this rustic look. I'm happy with the build i just wish my logs were longer.

This "box" doesn't even deserve the name "box"...it's true art…the wood selection is brilliant…the hinge is masterful…the inlays are inspired…there is everything positive about this container of love…

I've often wondered, how does one go about inlaying stone into wood?

Paul,
i love the hinge system. it looks very rustic but not too difficult to do. do you think you could post a bit more information on how you attached the lid to the hinges? did you use separate pins on each side or is it one long rod through the whole hinge set up?

thanks in advance,

Thanks everyone for the kind words.

Corey inlaying the stone is not hard , I just followed a explanation I found here on LJ , it was on one of Cindy Hicks projects .

Isaac the hinge worked out well … at first I wanted a branch to go all the way accross the lid, but I didn't have one so I tried this one and everything worked out because the 2 end pieces also work as the stops for the lid. I did dowel the branch to the lid for strength , also I doweled both end pieces to the box. I did use separate pins on each side.

whitedog,
Very nice work. I really think the hinge is just "Da Bomb". The rustic look is kept intact with the use of that design on the hinge. I might have to steal that hinge design for one of my future projects! Beautiful ovrerall design and build-TY for sharing.
Sincerely,
Ken McGinnis
