Project Information

This is a recipe box I was asked to make by a fire chief. Their firefighters association is giving it to a family whose house burned down recently, but still made a sizable donation to their fundraiser. It is walnut and spalted hackberry from an LJ known for his hackberry. The drawers are 8" deep to hold quite a lot of 3×5 cards. Thanks for looking.

Well done Bill, the Hackberry stripes seem to line up just right. Lucky you got a great source for that!!

That was a nice thing to do for the family….......it will be appreciated.

Thanks gang. The hackberry is great.
Jeff, each end and the drawer front on that side are from the same piece, plus the ends are book matched though it's hard to tell since you can't see both ends at the same time. So the grain lines up because it is the same piece.

Bill,

Stellar job on the recipe box….Beautiful work as usual, bud…..I've never worked Hackberry, but I sure like the grain patterns….You're right…that should hold boo-koo recipes….They will be proud of it…..

Thanks Jim, Mark, Rick.
Rick, the hackberry stinks when cut. This is spalted hackberry. It was dead and the streaks come from fungus. Regular hackberry has very plain grain.
