Project Information
A teacher friend of mine had some red oak in her garage that a neighbor of hers gave her some ten years ago. It was probably older but I have no evidence. It had discolored badly do we ran it through my 13inch planer and took off about 1/16inch from each face. The final thickness was about 11/16inch. Made the wood look real nice. She wanted a multipurpose coffee table so this is where a picture is worth a thousand words. We stained it with a red mahogany stain that she had and I used a semi-gloss Varathane polyurethane oil based for the finish. The drawers are full extension measuring a full 26inches from front to back. Using solid wood really adds to the final weight. Used breadboard ends to help prevent cupping. The only plywood was 3/4inch Baltic birch for the bottom and the center divider. 1/2inch Baltic was used for the for the drawers sides. In the third picture you jocks can meet Nick, my new shop dog.
