Project Information
The Project: Based loosely on the Ford F150, but with definite GMC influences, this model/toy was built from the Toys and Joys plan-101. The construction has been done with Maple, Walnut and Western Red Cedar (the interior). The wheels were purchased locally and altered for my use. Decals are done on my ink jet printer. Finish is spray can acrylic. The truck measures about 18" long, 6" wide and 7" in height. This has been a really fun project, but I am glad to see it completed. If you have a sanding fetish this one is for you. Although not a real difficult toy to build it will test your skills. Don't look too close, there are lots of mistakes.
The Story: As with most of my toys/models there is usually a story that goes with them. This one is no different. This truck has been built for my daughter. Megan finished up her post secondary education last spring, four years in university followed by a year at college. Upon completion, she landed herself a job in the human resource department of our local county of Haldimand. Haldimand County, is a fairly large employer that deals with four separate unions, is responsible the roads, parks, policing, emergency service, museums, land taxes and just about anything else that local government handles. We are a big community. Population of 42,000 spread over a very large amount of land… I'm not too sure of the square area, but it is large.
Now Megan has an office and desk, but unlike a number of other employees she is not required to have a truck. I see these trucks almost every day in the region somewhere. Whether it's the street cleaner or the water treatment guys checking up on something, you don't have to go far to see an employee of the county. Although in her new chosen career a truck is not necessary, I think she should have one for her desk. So, I made her one. If it sounds like I am just a little proud of this girl, your right, I am, just a little.
